On 4 October 2016, Hurricane Matthew ravaged the southwest of Haiti. According to aid workers, there is a real threat of famine. Many areas are still inaccessible. 1.4 million people urgently need help, including nearly 600,000 children. There is not enough food for the survivors. In addition, there is the risk that cholera will spread.
Several EAA members (Swiss Solidarity, Radio Hjalpen, ADH) have activated National Appeals while others like Humanitarian Coalition, AGIRE and Nachbar in Not, are mobilizing to raise awareness amongst their own donors.
This year marked 20 years since Radiohjälpen’s largest fundraiser, Children of the World (Världens Barn) was launched. Fifteen organisations joined Radiohjälpen, Swedish Television and Swedish Radio in a major effort that continues throughout the year, but peaks early October.
